Weekend DIY!

Here's a quick DIY idea that you can use for either nesting your cute house, or use as centerpieces at your reception! Either way, these bookpage jars look so charming with a candle in them at night. They're easy to make, and I can almost guarantee you already have everything to make them.

Need:

  • old bookpages, drawings, maps, woodgrain contact paper, anything paper!
  • mod-podge & a brush
  • jars (make sure you can fit a candle inside them first) or hurricane glass

Step 1 - Rinse out your jars and remove labels. A good way to get labels off is to first fill the jars with hot water, let them soak a few minutes, and while the hot water is in the jar, just peel the label off. Brilliant. (Thanks, mom)

Step 2 - Pick out your pages and glue them with mod-podge onto the jars.

Step 3 - Let your jars dry on wax paper for a few hours.

Step 4 - Do extra decorating if you like - tie ribbon or string around for a little more color!

Step 5 - Put candles in and you're done. Put them around your house, or set them aside in a box for your reception!

I think this is a beautiful idea! I once did this to a lamp shade but I used the wrong kind of glue. Oh well, thanks for posting and for the great idea!

WOW...this is great!! So lovely!

This is such an excellent idea! I am a big fan of old book pages and because I use them a lot in my creations I have lots of pieces of left over pages to utilise, definitely giving this one a go :) x

Thanks everyone! My favorite pages to use are pages from old Readers Digest books from the 50's and 60's, because they have so many varied and quirky illustrations in them. :)

I recently made a moss and rosette centerpiece. Just filled a shallow glass owl about half way with dirt, then added moss and made a rosette out of burlap. A nice button added some bling to the rosette :)

Love this idea. I did something similar last Thanksgiving. I printed photos of each of my children and grandchildren on transparency paper and stuck them to a giant jar/vase with 2 sided Scotch tap. I put a candle in it and everyone was illuminated. Then I put the whole thing on a lazy susan so that people at the table could turn it to find themselves and others. It was quite the conversation piece. I would do it this year but my cats broke the giant vase, so now I'll do your idea instead!

Found this on Pinterest! Love it. My bff and I love books so much, and we've bonded over many. I'm going to make this for her birthday. It's so brilliant and beautiful.
Thanks a bunch!

I adore this idea as I and my grandaughter are avid readers!! I think it would be great to use pages from childrens books, use larger jars and they can be used for storing crayons/hair clips, etc. I think I will make these for EVERYONE!!

As a jar and book lover, this is right up my alley. Can't stand to waste either of them! Shared a pin/link here:
